CIMC continued its annual practice of hosting Regional Development Forums in selected provinces within the four regions. As a result, the following provinces played host to the 2008 Regional Development Forums;
- Papua Regional Forum – Port Moresby, NCD
- Highlands Regional Forum – Kundiawa, Simbu Province
- NGI Regional Forum – Kimbe , West New Britain Province
- Momase Regional Forum – Lae, Morobe Province
Regional Development ForumsThe Secretariat wanted as much as possible to vary the locations of the regional forums so that people with in the respective regions will have access to these avenues of discussions.
The theme for the 2008 Regional Forums was ‘Community Monitoring of District Service Improvement Program Grants’.
There was a call from the public to make this known and also create an opportunity for the community to monitor how grants by financial institutions in the provinces. This call came about after provincial consultations conducted by CIMC project officers. The lack of knowledge on how the annual National Budgets are formulated stemmed out from previous years since 2005 and this was carried out in the 3-year program conducted by CIMC.
The Forums were attended by many more participants than the past forums in all the regions.
